“Me and Paul”, a song written and recorded by Willie Nelson for the label, was first recorded for the RCA label on May 4, 1971, at RCA Victor Studio, 800 17th Ave. South, Nashville, TN. Seven other songs were recorded on the same session, Willie was accompanied at the recording session by: David Kirby (guitar), Pete Wade (guitar), Chip Young (rythm guitar), David Zettner (guitar), Weldon Myrick (steel), Robert Thompson (banjo), Junior Huskey (bass), Jerry Carrigan (drums), Hargus Robbins and Jerry Smith (piano), Buddy Spicher (fiddle) and Charlie McCoy (harmonica). With the production of Felton Jarvis, the song was released in October 1971. It failed to enter the charts. Willie, recorded the song again on November 16, 1984, at Pedernales Recording Studio, Spicewood, TX, in this session willie was accompanied by: Jody Payne (guitar), Grady Martin (guitar), Bee Spears (bass), Paul English and Billy English (drums and percussion), Bobbie Nelson (piano) and Mickey Raphael (harmonica). With the production of Willie Nelson, the song was released in August 1985, and peaked at # 14 on the US Hot Country Songs charts on November 23, 1985, and remaining a total of 19 weeks on the charts. On Canadian RPM Country Tracks, reached at # 6.
The song was included on Willie, Me & Paul's thirty-second studio album (Columbia 1985).
Willie would record it again in 1998, in a duet with Johnny Cash, for the album, VH1 Storytellers (American Recordings 1998).
