Desperado, song written by Glenn Frey and Don Henley, members of the rock band eagles, who released the song for the first time, in April 1973. Johnny Rodriguez recorded it for the Mercury label, on July 1, 1976, at U.S. Recording Studio, 12 Music Circle Sq., Nashville, TN. With the production of Jerry Kennedy, the single was released in January 1977, on March 12, 1977, reached the number # 5 of the charts of US Hot Country Songs. The charts of Canadian RPM Country Tracks, reached the number # two.
The song was included in Johnny’s eighth studio album, Reflecting (Mercury 1976), the album was released on September 15, 1976, on November 27, 1976, reached # 11 on the charts of US Top Country Albums, and stayed 20 weeks on the list.
Story behind the song:
Don Henley started writing parts of this in the late 1960s, but it was not organized into a song until his composition partner, Glenn Frey, appeared. It was the first of many songs that Henley and Frey wrote together.
Henley explained in the notes to The Very Best of the Eagles: “Glenn came over to write one day, and I showed him this unfinished melody that he had sustained for so many years.” I said, “When I play and sing, I think of Ray Charles, Ray Charles and Stephen Foster, it’s really a Gothic thing from the south, but we can make it more Western. “ Glenn jumped to the right, filled in the blanks and brought the structure. And that was the beginning of our association songwriting: that’s when we became a team. “This song is about a cowboy who refuses to fall in love, but could also be a young man who discovers guitars, joins The stress of being a rock star is a recurring theme in the music of the Eagles (for example, “Life In The Fast Lane”). The general theme is how you should suffer for your art .
