Don't Let Me Cross Over

Jim Reeves And Deborah Allen performs "Don't Let Me Cross Over"

"Don't Let Me Cross Over" is a song made famous as a duet by Carl Butler and Pearl, a husband-and-wife country music duo. Originally released in November 1962, the song needed just four weeks to reach the #1 spot on the Billboard Country Singles chart, and spent 11 (non-consecutive) weeks at #1."Don't Let Me Cross Over" has become a country-music standard.

In 1963, for the Album Good n Country, Jim Reeves recorded a solo version of "Don't Let Me Cross Over." In 1979, up-and-coming country vocalist Deborah Allen recorded a vocal track, and producer Bud Logan oversaw the remixing of a new musical track. Allen's vocals were added to the existing Reeves' track, and a single was produced and released in late 1979. The Reeves-Allen duet – one of several released as singles – went on to peak at No. 10 on the Hot Country Singles chart, and in addition to becoming one of Reeves' many posthumous hits, would pave the way for the even bigger success of another electronically created duet,

Jim Reeves Don't Let Me Cross Over lyrics

I'm temped my darling,to steal you away

So help me darling, stay out of my way

You know that I love you, but I'm not the cheatin' kind

I'm facing a heartache and loves cheating line

Don't let me cross over loves cheating line

You belong to another and could never be mine

I know one step closer, would be heaven divine

Don't let me cross over, loves cheatin' line

I tried to forget, but what else can I do

When your eyes keep saying, that you love me to

I know if I lose you, not a dream will I have left

I don't want to cheat, dear, but I can't help myself

Don't let me cross over loves cheating line

You belong to another and could never be mine

I know one step closer, would be heaven divine

Don't let me cross over, loves cheatin' line
